One thing about being in the video production business is that you get to see a variety of weird things over your career. One time in the 1980s, there was a UFO convention in Virginia Beach. It was interesting and I was hired to interview the different speakers for a video that would be put together later. I was busy going from room to room with my camera, recorder, and tripod. I got to a door marked “Psychic” I knocked on the door and a voice from inside asked me in. I came in, equipment in hand and the woman looked a little surprised.
She said, “What are you doing here?”
Which I thought funny coming from someone who labeled themselves a psychic. So, I said, “Don’t you know?” The woman, apparently with no sense of humor at all snapped, “It doesn’t work like that!”
In my experience, it does not work at all. I was involved as a magician for many years, and I can tell you there are some amazing acts out there. The effects are mind-boggling and they will tell you that as amazing as it all seems, it is an illusion. They (for the most part) do not proclaim real magic powers. Here is one from Virginia Beach on America’s Got Talent that was a really good psychic trick. Check it out here: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDDdNlUKfFk).
It is however a trick. I like to say, the best way to predict the future is to create it.
